It is a five-door hatchback with a 1.2-litre engine and a CVT automatic gearbox, which is exactly the right amount of car for an island where the speed limit rarely matters and parking usually does. Fuel consumption sits around 5 litres per 100 km in mixed island driving, so a full tank lasts most of a week. Toyota service coverage on Samui is the best of any brand, which matters more than it sounds on an island two hours from the mainland.

It gets there, but not quickly.
