The Mitsubishi Triton is the easiest pickup to drive of the three we rent. Mitsubishi gave it a notably tight turning circle for the class and lighter steering than its rivals, which makes it much less intimidating for someone who has never driven a pickup. The 2.4-litre turbodiesel and six-speed automatic are smooth, and the double cab seats five properly.

Any minor damage is deducted from the deposit and the balance returned. We photograph every panel, the interior, the fuel or charge level and the odometer at handover, and you get those timestamped photos with your digital contract - so there is a record to compare against rather than an argument.
First-time pickup renters, families who want pickup clearance without pickup awkwardness, and anyone carrying bulky kit who still needs five seats. A good compromise between a passenger car and a working vehicle.
Turning circle is the specification that matters most on this island, and the Triton has the best of any pickup here. Chaweng Beach Road, the lanes behind Fisherman's Village and most restaurant car parks were not designed for a 5.3-metre vehicle, and the Triton makes those manoeuvres in one attempt more often than its rivals do. The open bed is exposed - do not leave anything in it during a rain shower or an hour at the beach.
It takes some adjustment in the beach towns, where the roads are narrow and parking is tight. The Mitsubishi Triton is the easiest of our pickups for a newcomer - the tightest turning circle and the lightest steering of the three. On the ring road and hill climbs, any pickup is the most relaxed thing we rent.
You can, but we do not recommend leaving anything there unattended or in rain. The bed is open and unlocked. Plan on carrying valuables in the cab and using the bed for gear you can afford to leave exposed.
Yes, it is a double cab with four proper doors and a full rear bench. Rear space is reasonable for adults on island-length journeys.
