Toyota Yaris Ativ
- 5 seats
Sedans cost a little more than hatchbacks on Koh Samui and buy you two things: a separate locked boot that nobody can see into, and a quieter, more settled car on the ring road. For four adults with luggage doing a week of island driving, this is the value sweet spot.
Prices shown are the average day rate, from ฿800 in low season. Open a model for its full day, week and month rates, deposit and specification.
Five seatbelts, four adults in genuine comfort, and a boot that takes two large cases plus two cabin bags with the back seat still free for passengers. That makes a sedan the cheapest thing we rent that handles a four-person airport arrival without anybody holding a bag on their lap. Child seats fit the rear ISOFIX anchors on every model here; tell us the ages of your children at booking and we fit the seats before the car is delivered.
A sedan suits couples and families of four who want their luggage out of sight, business visitors who would rather arrive in something conventional, and long-stay renters for whom daily comfort compounds - the monthly rates in this category are among the lowest in the fleet. It suits the airport run particularly well: two large cases and two cabin bags disappear into the boot and the rear seat stays usable.
The separate boot is a genuine security feature here. Cars get left at trailheads for the Na Muang waterfalls, at the Big Buddha car park and outside beach restaurants for hours, and a sedan gives you somewhere to leave things that is not visible through the glass. On the road, the extra weight over a hatchback settles the car on the concrete-slab sections of the ring road near Nathon, which can get choppy at speed. The same ground-clearance caveat applies as for hatchbacks: steep villa driveways will have the underside touching, so confirm the access before booking.
The Toyota Vios and Yaris Ativ are the same car underneath and the most widely serviced vehicles on the island, so they are the safe default. The Nissan Almera is the cheapest and has the biggest back seat of the group. The Honda City is the roomiest and best-equipped mainstream choice. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class sits in a different bracket entirely - take it if arriving in the right car matters, and note that its deposit is higher than the rest of the category, which its model page states before you book rather than at handover.

The long version, including the licence and International Driving Permit requirement, is on the hub: what the rate includes, how the return and deposit refund work and what happens after a breakdown or an accident.
