Hatchbacks for rent on Koh Samui

How many people and bags actually fit
Four adults and two large cases, the same as their petrol equivalents - the battery sits under the floor rather than in the boot, so nothing is lost to it. All of them take two large cases, though the MG4 has the deepest boot of the group and the GWM Ora Good Cat the shallowest, which is worth knowing if you are arriving with full luggage. Rear ISOFIX anchors are standard across the group and we fit child seats before delivery on request.
Who this suits
Right for couples and small families who want cheap, silent, air-conditioned transport, and for long-stay residents where the running-cost saving compounds week after week. The one thing that decides it is charging: a hotel wallbox, a villa with a 3-pin outlet you may use, or a base near Chaweng or Lamai where the public chargers are concentrated. Ask your accommodation that question before you book an EV of any size.
Hatchbacks on Koh Samui roads
Do the arithmetic before worrying about range. A full lap of the ring road is 51 km. Airport to Lamai is about 20 km. A big day of sightseeing - Big Buddha, Fisherman's Village, Na Muang waterfalls, the Grandmother and Grandfather rocks and back - struggles to pass 90 km. A 300 km EV therefore covers three or four heavy days per charge. Where an electric hatchback is genuinely worse than a petrol one is the steep hill villas: climbing consumes charge fast, regeneration gives much of it back on the way down, but a small battery plus a hill base means charging more often.
Choosing between them
The BYD Dolphin is the value pick and the most common EV on the island. The Dolphin Extended Range is the same car with a bigger battery - take it if you are staying up a hill or renting for a month. The MG4 is the best to drive by a clear margin, being rear-wheel drive and properly set up. The GWM Ora Good Cat is the most comfortable and the best equipped. The Nissan Leaf is the cheapest but uses the older CHAdeMO fast-charging standard, now scarce in Thailand - fine if you charge at your accommodation, awkward if you rely on public DC chargers. We deliver every one of them fully charged and photograph the state of charge, so the level you start with is on record.
What every hatchback rental includes
- Comprehensive first-class insurance with Collision Damage Waiver on every car. Your liability is capped at the deposit, and the deposit is stated on the model page before you book.
- Unlimited mileage. The odometer is photographed at both ends of the rental as part of the condition record, never as the basis for a distance charge.
- Delivered at 100% charge. Bring it back above 20% and there is nothing to pay; below that, the metered cost of the electricity from the receipt and nothing on top.
- No cleaning fee for the sand, dust and damp towels of ordinary island use. Specialist cleaning is charged only against the invoice, and only after you have seen it.
- Free delivery and collection anywhere on Koh Samui, flight tracked if you are arriving, with every panel, the interior, the state of charge and the odometer photographed at handover.
- Deposit back within three bank days. If there is genuine damage you get both photo sets and an itemised garage invoice before anything is deducted.
